Finding Movement You Actually Enjoy

3 min read

When we think about exercise, it’s easy to focus on what we should be doing.

The hardest workout. The latest fitness trend. The exercise that burns the most calories.

But one of the best ways to stay active might be much simpler:

Find movement you actually enjoy.

Exercise isn’t one-size-fits-all

Some people love lifting weights. Others love the energy of a group fitness class. You might prefer yoga, Pilates, running, walking, cycling, swimming, surfing or simply getting outside.

And some of us like a little bit of everything.

There’s no single “right” way to be active. In fact, enjoyment can play an important role in helping us stick with physical activity over the longer term.

If every workout feels like a chore, it can be difficult to keep showing up. But when you find something you genuinely enjoy, or simply love how you feel afterwards, being active becomes much easier to make part of your life.

What makes you feel good?

Rather than only thinking about what exercise you should do, think about how you want movement to make you feel.

Do you want to feel stronger? Energised? Calm? Challenged? Or perhaps you enjoy the social side of exercising with other people.

Maybe what you really love is putting your headphones on and having an hour to yourself.

They’re all good reasons to move.

And don’t be afraid to try something new. You don’t need to be flexible before trying yoga, strong before lifting weights or fit before joining a class.

Everyone starts somewhere.

From the hills to the sea

We’re incredibly fortunate to live in Apollo Bay, where there are so many ways to be active.

From the hills to the sea and everything in between, movement doesn’t have to happen inside four walls.

Walk the beach, explore the trails, surf, swim, ride your bike, work in the garden, or combine the things you love outside with strength training, yoga, Pilates or a class at the gym.

It all counts.

And what you enjoy might change with the seasons, your goals or simply what’s happening in your life.

Find what works for you

At Gym Lab, we know fitness isn’t one-size-fits-all.

You might love strength training, yoga or Pilates. You might thrive on the energy of a group class or simply want to train independently.

You don’t have to love every kind of exercise. You just need to find movement that works for you.

Try things. Change things. Have fun with it.

Because the best exercise isn't necessarily the “perfect” workout.

It’s the one you want to come back to.

Not sure where to start?

Sometimes the hardest part is simply knowing where to begin.

Book a Meet & Greet with Lil or Amy and we can have a chat about what you'd like to get out of being more active, what kinds of movement you enjoy and what might realistically fit into your life. We can talk you through the different options at Gym Lab and help you find a starting point that feels right for you.

Ready to get started in the gym? Book an Introductory Gym Program and we'll show you how to use the equipment safely and put together a simple gym program to help you get started with confidence.

Ready to book? You can book a Meet & Greet or Introductory Gym Program directly through the GymMaster App, or email us at hello@gymlabapollobay.com.au and we’ll help organise a time that suits.

Whether it's the gym, a class, or simply finding more ways to move, we're here to help you find what works for you.

If you’re returning to exercise following an injury, surgery or health condition, speak with your GP or appropriate allied health professional about the exercise that’s right for you.
